Attached to this post is the process by which a user would setup the VMAX SMI-S provider to communicate with Turbonomic to be able to add VMAX as a storage target within Turbonomic's storage discovery and control capabilities (added in release 5.4).
1.) This setup requires Turbonomic's Storage Control Module or Workload Edition for the VMAX target to appear in the Target Configuration.
2.) For the VMAX probe to appear, the appliance must be running on Suse 13.2 or later. If you are having issues finding the target, or need assistance upgrading to 13.2, please contact email@example.com.
Post SMI-S Installation Setup for EMC VMAX
Introduction: This guide is to help users configure the SMI-S provider once installed on a new Windows VM in the environment. To download and install the SMI-S provider, please see the attached PDF entitled "Installing and Configuring the SMI-S". From that point on, follow the below guide.
1.) Open CMD and navigate to SYMCLI\bin>syminq to verify gatekeeper visibility and to discover arrays
2.) CD back to start and then navigate to ECIM\ECOM\conf>notepad. Security_settings.xml to edit the External Connection Limit and the SSL Client
3.) Ctrl F to find the first ExternalConnectionLimit
4.) Change the value from 100 to 600 then find the ExternalConnectionLimitPerHost
5.) Change the value from 100 to 600
6.) Find the SSLClientAuthentication line
7.) Change the value from optional to none, then save and close the xml file
8.) CD back to start and then navigate to SYMCLI\bin>symcfg disco to kick of the discovery of the Arrays and Verify the SMI-S provider
9.) After the operation completes, type >symcfg list to list the arrays that were discovered
10.) CD back to ECIM\ECOM\bin then type >TestSmiProvider.exe and skip the the Connection Type, Host, Port, Username, Password, Log output to console, log output to file and Logfile path to use the defaults
11.) Once the operation completes and prompts for the local host, type dv
12.) After the dv runs, you will be prompted once again, after which type q to terminate the localhost connection
13.) In the Windows VM, open Internet Explorer and navigate to http://localhost:5988/ecomconfig to create a username
14.) Once logged in, select add user
15.) Create a user with a role of administrator for Turbonomic to use, then log into Turbonomic and target the IP of the Windows VM with the SMI-S provider
