Setting SMI-S Provider for VMAX to allow Turbonomic to Discover & Communicate with this device:

 

SMI-S Provide is part of EMC Solution Enabler at the following prompt, specify whether to install the Solutions Enabler SMI-S Provider component.

 

A [Y]es response installs the SMISPROVIDER component:

 

Install EMC Solutions Enabler SMIS Component ? [N]: Yes

The SMI-S can run on a physical host or Virtual Machine (Ideally), what is important is that the version chosen must see each VMAX as Local and not as remote. If not, we won’t be able to collect IOPS and latency data; However, we will still map the topology.

 

To see the VMAX as Local all the gatekeeper devices for each VMAX must be ZONED to the VM which will see them as RDM Devices.

 

The following Command: symcfg list must be run on the console of the SMI-S VM to validate how the VMAX is attached.

 

Remember in order to get IOPS and Latency information the device has to be seen as "Local"
