Setting up and Testing SMTP Email Notifications

A quick guide on setting up and testing SMTP with Turbonomic.

 

1. Here we will set up SMTP and enable email notifications and reports.

a) Visit the Policy tab

b) Select Email/ Trap Notification from the Category menu.

c) Input the email address you wish to receive notifications and reports from.

d) Input your SMTP Relay Host address

e) Hit Apply to save the changes.

 

 

 

2. Now we'll look at an example for testing your SMTP set up.

a) Expand the Email/ Trap Notification button by clicking on the arrow to the left of the text.

b) Select the area of your infrastructure you wish to create notifications for.

c) Click the green + icon to create a new notification

d) Select a type of notification, here I've selected Control meaning any recommended actions for the selected area of the environment will be sent to me via email as a notification. You also need to specify the severity for which you wish to receive notifications. You also need to input the email address notifications are to be sent to.

e) Then hit Apply Settings Change, to save changes.

f) Hit the blue icon to generate a test email

 

3. Check that you have received your test email. Here's the test email I received after following the above steps.

 

3. How to Setup Scheduled Reports

Now that you’ve successfully set up your SMTP settings Turbonomic can now also send out reports via email. Here’s an example.

 

a) Navigate to the Reports tab, where you can find pre-built reports as well as any you have custom created.

b) Select the report you wish to schedule distribution of

c) Click Add

d) Select frequency, format and input the email address this report should be sent to and if applicable the scope for the report.

e) Hit Apply
