This document shows step by step how to run a plan to simulate the migration of workloads to a different cluster to gain an understanding of the resource requirements in the destination cluster to host the additional load of the migrated workloads.
From the splash screen the first step is to click the Plan option in the top right hand corner
Next select the Workload Migration option
Now we need to select the workloads that we want to migrate from their current location, for this example I will migrate the QualityAssurance group of 27 VMs. It is possible to search for the workloads by a wide range of criteria from Name, Group, Configuration to Tags. Select the workloads you wish to migrate and click select at the bottom of the screen.
The next step is to scope to the destination of the migration simulation you are trying to perform. Click into the box labelled Plan Scope and a search box will open to allow you to find your destination hosts or cluster. In my environment I am migrating the VMs to a Cluster named PMs_HawthorneCloud so I begin to type this into search and then select it from the shortlist.
The final configuration step is to Ignore Constraints to allow the simulation to break the boundaries of networking and storage visibility allowing it to accurately predict the capacity requirements. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click on Ignore Constraints and toggle it on.
Then click run at the top right hand corner, once the plan has completed the results will be displayed.
The results of my plan show that to host the additional VMs the cluster needs to go from 6 to 12 hosts.
