This document shows step by step how to run a Decommission Hosts plan to understand the impact of removing one or more hosts from a cluster.
From the splash screen the first step is to scope to the cluster you wish to simulate removing the host from, on the left hand side click the Search button then click Clusters then select the cluster you are targeting.
After you have selected the cluster the screen will redraw with the supply chain on the left scoped to the cluster you have selected. You should see the correct number of Hosts and VMs shown for the cluster you are targeting, in my scenario this is 6 hosts and 25 VMs
Next click on Plan at the top right of the screen, this will take you into Plan view with the scope you have selected as the basis for the simulation you are performing.
Next select the Decommission Hosts option on the Select Plan Type page
You will be presented with a list of the hosts in the cluster you are scoped to so you can select the host or hosts you wish to decommission, select the host(s) and click remove
Finally click the Run option in the top right hand corner
Your plan will now run, once completed you will be presented with the results in my scenario it cluster can run effectively with 5 hosts and remain within the Desired State
