Do you consider "vendor lock-in" as a part of your purchasing decision for data center hardware and software?

This is a contentious issue when vendors talk about freeing us from what we call vendor lock-in. Truthfully, with the length of purchasing cycles for a lot of data center hardware and software, I don't feel that this is as prevalent as many would have us believe.

It isn't that products don't hold us into a platform in one way or another. This absolutely does happen, but I also see that many of the products that supposedly free us from lock-in are in fact not platforms that allow for simple exit. Even if they do, is it a reality that we are rapidly moving workloads in and out of hardware and software platforms?
