I'm looking for documents to create the Storage DRS through turbonomic ( VMware SDRS), but unable to see any
option in turbonomic. Any help will be much appreciated.
Just to clarify the settings you have set up there:
Disabled is disabled (you wont see these decisions)
Recommended means you will see the decisions but cannot take them within Turbonomic
Manual means you will see the decisions and can take them within Turbonomic
Automatic means that Turbonomic will automate the action.
So if you want to enable storage motions here is what I would suggest:
From settings/policies, click the button labelled "+ automation policy"
then select the policy type (meaning the element that will be affected). Here I would select Virtual Machines
Then within that next screen you can create the settings for this new policy. I would start here, and then add any additional configurations wanted. This below will just automate storage motions globally, but you can scope in to set up settings for particular groups if desired.
Are your storage motions enabled?
By default they are set to recommend, so by default you cannot take those actions within Turbonomic.
To automate storage motions you'd have to set them from recommend to Automate under policies
1) click settings
2) click policies
3) select virtual machine defaults
here you should see the different actions, as well as Turbo's settings for the actions (ie Automate, Manual, Recommend, Disabled)
Thank you for your response. Could you please let me know where to check Storage motion enabled?
Also, please find the settings in policy. Can't we enable the option for Automation at Cluster level or for specific cluster because i want to test first before enabling automatically? Does any exclusion policy need to take while enabling?
Thank you Brian. Before implementing/following the steps suggested by you, do i need to change the setting as per below screen shot.
You shouldn't need to change that setting.
To change default settings for your VMs you would want to go to Virtual Machine defaults, and that will let you edit the default settings across your entire environment.
The additional policy should override the default, but in the event it doesn't then I would go in to Virtual Machine Defaults and check your settings there for storage motions. By default it is recommend.
